ST. George Marathon 2012

Today the lottery results for the St. George marathon were announced. If you are wondering how to receive one of our guaranteed marathon entries for 2012 you are in the right place! 

We were awarded 5 entries for 2012. As of 7pm on May 14, we only have 2 left.

We are selling each spot for $800, that does NOT include your registration fee.

I will also be starting a list of alternates in case other positions open up.

Mothers Day Baskets!

Two years ago we started a tradition of making and delivering Mothers Day baskets (Pictured above) to the women at the D.O.V.E. Center. For over 15 years in the DOVE Center has been committed to provide safe, caring, and confidential shelter, advocacy, and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and to reduce the incidents of abuse through prevention education.

If you have beauty products, jewelry, magazines, or other items you would like to contribute/donate please email us at washfirerelief@yahoo.com and we will make arrangements to pick them up. You can also call Sara at 435-632-5042. We are planning on delivering them on May 11, 2012.

One more thing!

Once again we will have the Dunk Tank set up at Washington City's Cotton Days Celebration. It will be May 12! This year we will be joining forces with the local Firefighters Union #4696 to raise money to refurbish their old firetruck (pictured above). They hope to get it to show condition so it can be used at Funerals and other important events. Come out and support a great Cause.

Happy 2012

The past year has been an incredible year for US! Thanks to you! In the past year we have helped families with their bills, donated to a couple elementary schools, and helped send a very deserving family to Disneyland! We were also able to provide a Thanksgiving and Christmas to several families in need!

Here is a quick rundown of what we have planned so far for 2012- there may be more activities added.

2011 St. George Marathon

We no longer have Marathon spots available. If you would like to send an email that indicates that you would like to be an alternate if one of our 5 spots does become available again please do so. I can't guarantee that one will open up, but if it does, they will be sold in first-come first-serve order. Thank you so much for your support!

2011 St. George Marathon

As of right now, we only have 1 Marathon entry remaining. We are selling them for a $750 donation (not including the registration fee).

2011 Marathon Entry

This year we have been awarded 5 spots in the St. George Marathon. We are askingfor a $750 donation for each spot on a first come- first serve basis. Please know that you will also be responsible for your own entry fee into the Marathon in addition to your $750 donation. We will try to be as quick as possible to update this blog with the number of spots we have remaining. Please note that we have a deadline of July 25th, 2011 for all entry forms and money to be recieved.
All money is tax deductable and will be going to help the people of our community in many different ways.

What a GREAT (and busy) year we have coming! Here is a list of our upcoming events...

Monday March 21 (my birthday)
Red Robin Fundraiser- We are raising funds for a local family to help them take a much needed vacation to Disneyland. Last year the mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and has undergone tough treatment. She is married with 2 small children (ages 5 and 1), and her husband works out of town. As if having a double mastectomy wasn't enough, doctors found that she has a gene that causes breast and ovarian cancer, so she needs a hysterectomy as well. After a year like the one this, they dream of going to Disneyland, but life and medical bills make it seem impossible. We hope to raise enough money to help them with the trip by purchasing as many Southern California City Passes as we can (they will need 3).
All you have to do is eat dinner at Red Robin on March 21 from 5pm-8pm and tell your server that you would like to help. They will donate 10% of your bill to the cause. You’re going to eat dinner anyway, why not help a little too.

Saturday May 7
St. George IronMan- We are VERY excited to once again be at Run Aid Station #8, and to be teaming up with Ryan Bishop and Allstate Insurance (if you need insurance, you need to call Ryan). As of today we have several openings for the 6pm-11pm shift, and would love to have you join us (you won't regret it, we had a BLAST last year). Saturday May 14
Washington City Cotton Days- For the 3rd year in a row we will be sponsoring the dunk tank at the Cotton Days celebration. We are hoping to get members of the city council to "volunteer" to be dunked again this year. They were very kind in helping us last year! Make sure to come down and see us at the park.

St. George Marathon "Official Charity"- We received an email today informing us that we have been selected as an Official Marathon Charity! This is WONDERFUL news. We have been given 5 entrees to one of the most popular marathons in the country so that we can raise funds. We have not yet decided how to do this, but we are all VERY excited for the opportunity. The St. George Marathon will be October 1.

Merry Christmas

This has been a great year for our humble charity, thanks to all of you! To wrap it up, we are having our Christmas party on Dec 4th at 5:30 at the English Oaks Clubhouse. The meat and potatoes will be supplied, the rest (salad, dessert, drinks) is potluck.

We would like to take a minute to thank everyone for thier support this year, and also wish you all a very happy Holiday season.

Good News!

All of our events so far this year have been a huge success! Thank you to everyone (yes we mean you) you helped us along the way. Remember all the money we raise stays right here in Washington County!
Our "Charity of the Month" experience with 94.1 The Planet went very well. We got our name out there and raised $200 at our Chili's give back day. It was very fun (and yummy) and we hope to do it again next year.
The IRONMAN was absolutely the most fun we have had!!!! The people were great, the atmosphere was fun, and it was just great to be apart of. We will most definitely do it again next year. And to top off all that fun, the IRONMAN Foundation was gracious enough to give our charity $750 for participating.
We also made mothers day baskets for the women at the D.O.V.E. Center. They are a safe haven to women who suffer from Domestic Violence. We wanted to make their hearts smile, and I think we succeeded. We filled the baskets with Avon products (donated by local reps, they are AWESOME), slippers, and a nice necklace and earring set (also donated by a local rep). We were told the baskets were a huge hit, and hope to continue this next year.
At the end of May we hosted the Dunk tank at Washington City's Cotton Days Festival. Washington City's Mayor Neilson, Councilman Turek, and Councilman Hudson were all kind enough to put themselves on the line for a good cause. We had a great time and will be back next year with a giant tank full of water, hoping to get everyone cooled off.
As you can see it has been Quite a year already, and it is only July. We would like to thank EVERYBODY who made this year such a success, it is great to get our name out there and be able to help so many.

IRONMAN

We have partnered with Ryan Bishop and Allstate Insurance to bring you run aid station #8 at this years Ironman!!! We need alot of volunteers to help on May 1. We will have 3 shifts; about 11 am-3 pm, 3pm-8pm, and 8 pm till we are done. We need all the volunteers we can get, so please sign up!!! It's easy: Go to www.ironmanstgeorge.com and click on "volunteer" at the top of the page. fill out the form and indicate "run aid station" as your first choice. In the comment section write "run aid station # 8, Ryan Bishop/ Allstate." And thats it! We will be having a great time all day cheering on runners and helping out. Charity of the Month

This February we have been fortunate enough to be chosen as the Planet 94.1 "Charity of the Month." http://www.planet941.com/ This is such an exciting thing for us since it will get our name out to so many.

As part of the "Charity of the Month" experience, there will be a day at Chili's that you can eat and 10% of your bill will be donated to us. This will take place on Tuesday Feb 23 from 11am-11pm and includes dine-in or carry-out. All you have to do is tell you server that you want to help out the charity. You have to eat that day anyway, why not eat at Chilli's and help out the community. http://www.chilis.com/

As always, we hope to help as many people in the community that our funds allow. In May we will be hosting the dunk tank at the Washington City Cotton Days celebration and we are hoping to get together another yard sale for later in the year. All proceeds from all of our events will go directly back into the community.

Our community yard sale was a big success!!!! We raised over $650!!!!
Everything for sale was donated by members of the community and all the money raised will be used to help those in need.
We would like to thank all of the people who donated items to be sold, especially the Truman, Mayfield, Steve VanDerHeyden and Browning families. Without their generous donations our yard sale would not have been as successful as it was.
We would also like to thank everyone who helped us set up and take down, in addition to those who worked throughout the day, with a special thanks to Nisson's for letting us set up in their parking lot. This would not have been possible without all of you.
For every person who bought anything, we thank you! Your support will help us help our community.
It is because of these members of the community our organization has been able to help in the past and will continue to help in the future.

Community Yard Sale

On Saturday October 10th, we will be hosting a community yard sale in the parking lot of Nisson's Foodtown. Everything for sale will be donated, and the proceeds will be used to help members of the community. If you would like to donate gently used items, you can bring them to the parking lot of Nisson's at 7am Saturday morning. If you need more info please call Sara at 632-5042.

Washington City Elections

On September 15th Washington City is holding a primary election. Washington Fire and Charitable Relief Organization would like to announce thier support for Lou Balioni for city council.
Lou is married to his lovely wife Karen, and they have four children and four grandchildren. He spent the first 63 years of his life in New York City, where he served two years as a police officer and eight years as a Fire Fighter. He was forced to retire from the fire department due to a line of duty injury. Giving back to the community is a very important part of his personality. In New York City he co-founded a "Fathers Club". Its' purpose was to promote better relationships between fathers and their children. He also donated food to families in need. Here in Washington City he co-founded the Washington Fire Relief and Charitable Organization.

Cotton Days

This year we have 2 booths at Washington City's Cotton Days celebration. The first booth will be a dunk tank. We will have members of Washington City Public Safety Department in the tank, as well as willing participants from the crowd. The second booth will be a Firefighter Combat Challenge. We will have an adult and child courses. Do you think you can post the best time? Come out to Cotton Days on May 9, 2009 and find out!!! All proceeds will go to helping those in the community in need.
